Why Does Heart Rate Change?

NGSS Phenomena:
In the graphs below, you are able to see actual changes in heart rate during different situations (as graphed by a heart rate monitoring app called Cardiogram). Use this phenomenon to answer the questions that follow. In your responses, think about the different body systems that are interacting in each of the following graphs. The question we’re looking to answer is:


How do the body systems interact with each other?
NGSS Phenomena: 6 different graphs, showing a changing heart rate in different situations. The first graph, labeled Running, where the heart rate starts low and gets very high, until it lowers a little bit. The second graph, labeled restful sleep, is low with occasional small peaks. The third graph, labeled, driving in rush hour, is high the entire time. The fourth graph, labeled Hockey, is fairly high, with peaks at different times. The fifth graph, labeled sleep after alcohol, is very inconsistent with a mid level rate, then a very high peak, then it gets low again and peaks again. The last graph, labeled microsoft interview, is super high in the beginning, then gets very low, then gets super high again two more times while being low in between.
