Why Did The Twinkie Diet Work?

In 2010, a Kansas State University professor of nutrition went on a “twinkie” diet to show his students that counting calories was the most important part to losing weight. He also ate some vegetables and drank protein shakes, but the bulk of his diet consisted of “junk food.” He lost 27 pounds over the 2 months of his experiment.

As you answer the questions that follow, think about the ways that the sugars in junk food could be used by the body to create the essential nutrients needed for life. One of the most important molecules your body uses to create usable energy is Glucose (C6H12O6). Below, we see a model of the glucose molecule in Figure A.
